What is a consonant blend?
A consonant blend is a group of two or three consonants where you can still hear each letter's sound blended quickly together. In 'stop', you hear both the s and the t. This is different from a digraph, where the letters make one new sound.
Examples
- bl in black.
- st in stop.
- spr in spring.
Quick facts
- In a blend you hear each sound; in a digraph the letters make one sound.
- Blends often come at the start (stop) or the end (fast) of a word.
