Teaching guide

What students learn

Read dates on a calendar and work out the number of days between familiar events.

How to teach it

Read days, weeks and months on a real calendar; mark today and count on to a future date or event.

Worked example
The 1st of the month is a Saturday. What day of the week is the 16th?
Answer: Sunday
Why: count on 15 days from Saturday: (5 + 15) mod 7 = 6

Generated and checked in code, so it is correct.

Watch out for

Forgetting months have different numbers of days, and miscounting across week boundaries.
