About Grade 7

Grade 7 makes the ideas from Grade 6 general. Proportional relationships replace simple ratios, and students learn to recognise them in tables, graphs and equations. Operations extend to all rational numbers, so adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing negative fractions and decimals becomes routine. Algebra grows to two-step equations and inequalities and to simplifying expressions with the distributive property. Geometry covers scale drawings, angle relationships, circles (circumference and area) and the volume and surface area of prisms, while probability appears for the first time with simple and compound events.
