What is measures of turn?

A turn measures how far something rotates: a quarter turn is 90°, a half turn 180°, a three-quarter turn 270° and a full turn 360°, either clockwise or anticlockwise.

How to teach it

Act out quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns with the body, linking each to degrees (90°, 180°, 270°, 360°) and to clockwise vs anticlockwise.

Worked example

How many degrees is a quarter turn?
Answer: 90°

Common mistake

Muddling clockwise and anticlockwise, and confusing the fraction of a turn with the number of quarters.
