Position & Maps worksheets

Position & Maps worksheets give students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 focused practice in position words, simple maps and following directions. This page has 30 free printable sets, grouped by grade, and every set includes a computed answer key that is never wrong. Print them or save as a PDF, no login needed, or generate a fresh one.

How to teach it

Read a simple grid map, naming what is above, below, left and right of a landmark, giving the column then row of a square, and following a path (so many squares right and down).

Worked example

What is directly to the left of the pond?
Answer: nothing

Common mistake

Left and right depend on the viewer, and grid squares are read across (column) then up or down (row), not the other way around.
